People often ask me, they ask, “Walt, what is the best Croatian rock band I don’t even know about?
Sometimes I rattle off a couple of names, just to appease them. Or toy with them. Or make them go away.
But when I come across someone who is serious about getting to the bottom of just who the best Croatian rock band is, I pull out the big guns…
Gruhak!
I’m not sure why they posed in front of the Union Jack. They’re not from Union Jack, they’re from Croatia. Maybe they posed in front of the Union Jack because they really dig The Who. Here’s their cover of “Baba O’Riley.” The singer does an incredible Roger Daltrey. In fact, I sometimes wonder if it’s dubbed. But I don’t think so.
Here’s a cover of “Comfortably Numb” by Pink Floyd. Perhaps anther reason for the UJ. Check out the scream at 2:54. And if you do nothing else today, watch the second guitar solo beginning at 4:30. Awesome.
Their cover of Pink Floyd’s “Time” is also great, and well-worth a watch. In fact, I almost posted that one instead. Top to bottom, it may even be the better cover, but in the end that guitar solo won the day.
And here is one of their originals. This was done several years after the first two videos.
Gruhak, people. Gruhak.

Wow. I’m impressed.

But you prefer the smooth jazziness of Steely Dan, I bet.

You’d be surprised! I love some of The Who. And Pink Floyd is a favorite. And I have this thing…for Led Zeppelin. They’re the best!

You’re right, I am surprised, considering your picks on Susan’s blog. But then I’m also a fan of The Carpenters and Neil Diamond, so my tastes vary as well. But I’m a metal head above all.

My new favorite (which would have been one of the picks) is Thick as a Brick by Jethro Tull.

That’s a good one. I like Locomotive Breath too. I like any band that can make a flute rock.
